Screen Actors Guild Awards

Well, folks, the SAG awards are on tonight. I won’t be able to watch the show, but I figured I’d put my prognostication skills to the test and try to predict the winners. Just so you know, I didn’t do so great with my Globes predictions last week, so I’m apparently not very good at this. But that won’t stop me from trying…

Here’s a list of the nominees . I will just be posting my predictions for winner, and an alternate – to make me feel better when a lot of my first choice predictions don’t win. I may also list who I would like to see win – though I haven’t seen all the movies, nor do I watch a lot of the television shows, so those opinions will be qualified, though it won’t stop me from having them.

And away we go…

. There really weren’t any sour performances here – and there were quite a few stunning ones – and I really loved this film. I’ve only seen three of the nominated films, but from them, this was my favorite.

Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role:

Will Win: Jeff Bridges. He has the edge at this point over George Clooney. yet, I’d really like to see Colin Firth walk away with the award.

Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role:

Will Win: Meryl Streep. She’s the master, she’s playing a real person, and it’s been a while since she’s been properly recognized with a win, after years of fabulous performances. Alternate: Christopher Plummer. I shouldn’t even bother picking an alternate, so I figured I’d go out on a limb. A lot of the smart money in this competition is on Woody Harrelson, but I don’t buy it. I think if anyone takes this away from Waltz, it’ll be Plummer. Though that may just be because I really like him. nominated, but this one is a close second for me, and everyone on it is fabulous. (Phil is my favorite, though.)
